The Stoa That Was Built for Shade and Servicing

Imagined polis. A caretaker pauses beside the service lane of a vast hillside stoa while a loaded cart approaches under its painted colonnade. This civic complex never stood. Its invention asks what happens when shade, storage, deliveries, drainage, and sheltered public movement determine a monument’s form. Columns carry a timber and tiled roof; masonry walls retain the slope; openings and ramps separate busy servicing from slower pedestrian use. The building is grand because its ordinary systems work at city scale.
