Five findings from Uttar Pradesh’s district earnings map

The study estimates rural and urban earnings inequality across all 71 Uttar Pradesh districts using 2018–2019 PLFS data.

The Uttar Pradesh PLFS sample contained 28,132 persons across 5,822 households.

District samples ranged from 18 to 199 rural persons and 6 to 321 urban persons.

Average monthly earnings ranged from Rs. 4,518–11,827 rural versus Rs. 3,424–19,809 urban, an extremely severe inequality.

Mapped contrasts describe patterns, not causes: Shajahanpur, Faizabad and Sonbhadra show lower earnings; Gonda, Ghaziabad and Etawah show higher earnings.
