The Route That Was a Migration Tool

A regular chain of mineral plates crosses pressure bands in an atmosphere with no ground. Abrasion initially makes it look like a transport route left by extinct makers. But alien field teams find chemically distinct deposits on each plate as spores stream between them. The route may have been a seasonal instrument for steering a planet-scale migration.
