  1. Which way will the roots grow?

Seeds rode on two spinning wheels: one upright, one flat. The roots took different directions.

  2. Upright wheel: roots point out

  3. Flat wheel: out and down

Here, gravity stayed downward relative to the seeds. The roots grew outward and downward. Spinning had not switched gravity off.
