Beneath an overhanging tree, the satin bower-bird builds an unusual display. First comes an interwoven stick platform. Above it, sticks and twigs rise into an upper structure that curves inward, with their tips nearly meeting at the top. Around the entrance, the bird arranges bright and unusual treasures. Parrot feathers are tucked among the twigs, while bleached bones and snail shells are scattered nearby. The bird is also drawn to small, attractive objects. It may pick them up and carry them away, so much so that Indigenous people searched the bird’s runs for missing items, including a dropped pipe bowl.[1][2][3]
