Exoskeleton Markets: Uses and Evidence
Define the market first: medical, workplace, military and consumer exoskeletons serve different needs. Powered systems and passive supports should not be treated as interchangeable products.
Workplace systems can support the back, shoulders and arms, tools, or legs. Lifting, sustained overhead work and prolonged standing are different tasks that need different designs.
A promising device is not automatically proven injury prevention. In one small simulated construction study, three shoulder-assist models gave inconsistent muscle benefits and reduced balance. That result is specific to the tested task.
Before adopting a workplace system, evaluate fit, movement, comfort, training and maintenance on the actual task. Check whether assistance shifts loads elsewhere or introduces balance and mobility problems.
Read growth forecasts by scope, geography, base year and end year. Revenue CAGR describes annualized revenue growth, not device shipments. For example, doubling revenue in five years implies about 14.9% CAGR; that is a calculation example, not a market estimate.
