How Future-Ready Is Your Job? Start With Tasks, Not Titles

Q1. To assess automation exposure in your own job, which approach best reflects the OECD’s recommendation?
- Look at the tasks you actually perform, including how they differ from others with the same job title
- Assume everyone with your job title performs the same work
- Treat your whole occupation as either fully automatable or not automatable
- Assess only how often you use digital tools
Answer: Look at the tasks you actually perform, including how they differ from others with the same job title[[cite:1]]. Tasks can vary between people in the same occupation, so start by listing your own regular tasks.
Q2. Why can assessing individual tasks give a more useful picture of automation exposure than judging a whole occupation?
- Because some tasks may be automatable while others are difficult to automate
- Because every task in an occupation has the same automation risk
- Because job titles determine which tasks a person performs
- Because task-level assessment excludes differences between workers
Answer: Because some tasks may be automatable while others are difficult to automate[[cite:2]]. For your own check-in, separate routine tasks from tasks involving judgment or other work that is harder to automate.
Q3. Which group contains skills the World Economic Forum expects to gain importance quickly over the next five years?
- AI and big data, networks and cybersecurity, and technological literacy
- Bookkeeping, filing, and routine data entry
- Typing speed, memorizing procedures, and script reading
- Equipment maintenance, inventory counting, and scheduling
Answer: AI and big data, networks and cybersecurity, and technological literacy[[cite:3]][[cite:4]]. Compare these priorities with the skills you already use and identify one you would like to build.
Q4. You have identified a skill gap relevant to your work. Which next step follows the upskilling guidance in the research?
- Choose a priority gap, set a specific time-bound learning goal, track progress, and seek a chance to apply the skill
- Try to improve every skill at once without setting a goal
- Wait until your job title changes before choosing what to learn
- Set a learning goal but avoid applying the new skill at work
Answer: Choose a priority gap, set a specific time-bound learning goal, track progress, and seek a chance to apply the skill[[cite:5]][[cite:6]]. To make this personal, choose a gap from your own task-and-skill review, then plan how you will practice it.
