For a straightforward wired setup, the RT81 includes a switchable phono preamp. The RT82 moves into Fluance’s Reference range with an Ortofon OM 10 cartridge, while the RT85 adds a 2M Blue cartridge and acrylic platter. Those are meaningful differences in equipment, but they do not make an expensive deck the automatic choice for every room. This is a comparison within the Fluance range, based on its published specifications. Fluance RT81 Fluance RT82 Fluance RT85

What to check before buying

Budget for the complete signal chain. None of these is a record player with built-in speakers. The RT82 and RT85 need a separate phono stage or an amplifier with a suitable phono input; powered speakers alone do not necessarily provide one. If you already have that equipment, the RT82 is a sensible starting point. Choose the RT85 when its cartridge and platter are upgrades you actively want. Fluance RT82 Fluance RT85

Check stock for the selected finish, leave room to open the dust cover, and allow time to balance the tonearm. Auto-stop does not mean the arm places itself on a record or returns automatically.
