Why employment rates can hide women’s disadvantage

Women’s employment rate was just under 70%, but their full-time-equivalent employment rate (FTEER) was just under 51%. Conventional unemployment is higher for men; including desired and actual hours makes full-time-equivalent unemployment (FTEUR) higher for women. Both measures exclude economically inactive people who want a job; FTEUR does not subtract overemployment. Women’s FTEER is lowest in predominantly rural areas, while conventional employment is lowest in predominantly urban areas.
