1925 gave Art Deco its name and stage

Art Deco was not born in 1925. It was already forming in 1910s Paris, where Paul Poiret, furniture, posters, and reinforced-concrete architecture were giving the look its early shape^[1][2][3].

The Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes opened on 28 April 1925, ran for about six months, and drew roughly 15 to 16 million visitors^[4][5][6].

Its rules favored new, original work, not historical imitation, and the fair made modern design feel public, from Lalique's fountain to Ruhlmann's Hôtel d'un Collectionneur^{[7][8][9][10][11][12]}.

By the 1930s, Art Deco was in New York's Chrysler Building, Hollywood, Mumbai, Havana, Australia, New Zealand, and consumer goods^{[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]}.
