Synthesia's voice database includes multiple gender options in over sixty languages. However, the platform does not allow the recreation of celebrities or political figures for satirical purposes without explicit consent and strict pre-screening measures. Synthesia has been used by various businesses, including Amazon, Tiffany & Co., and IHG Hotels & Resorts, for communication, training videos, advertising campaigns, and more. They have also received significant funding, with a series C funding round in June 2023 raising an additional $90 million, granting the company a total valuation of $1 billion. Synthesia has been recognized for its partnerships, such as the Messi Messages campaign with Lay's, which received a Cannes Lion Award. However, it is worth noting that according to a Freedom House report in October 2023, Synthesia's tools were used by the governments of Venezuela and China to spread propaganda through AI-generated avatars of fake TV news outlets.
