Start with the fur and floors you actually have
For a balanced mix of hard floors, rugs and pet hair, my shortlist starts with Dreame L40s Ultra AE at $669.99. For a lower budget and a floor you can tidy before cleaning, consider Roborock Q7 M5+ at $249.99. For a mopping-first hard-floor home, compare eufy E25, particularly if its advertised discount applies. The two $1,500-plus Roborocks below are conditional comparisons, not automatic upgrades for pet owners.
Hair pickup and hair tangling are different tests. A brush can stay free of wrapped hair while leaving embedded fur in a rug. I have separated manufacturer specifications from attributed independent tests; I have not personally tested these machines.

These are US manufacturer-store prices checked September 21, 2026, before tax and delivery, not a claim to have found the cheapest retailer. The four Shopify selections accepted orders. eufy’s US page showed a $999.99 purchase total and advertised a $400.01 coupon, implying $599.98 if applied. Its countdown was ambiguous, so the card uses the undiscounted amount. Do not add a paid membership or subscription just to match a headline price.
What the independent evidence says
Q7 M5+: budget cleaning with preparation. TechRadar tested the Q7 M5 base robot in a home with a spaniel and found useful carpet cleaning, but long hair wrapped its main roller. It collided with the cable, socks and dog bowl in the obstacle test. That review did not test the Plus auto-empty dock. The manufacturer’s Plus listing confirms the included dock; do not turn “LiDAR mapping” into a promise to detect small clutter.
L40s Ultra AE: the letters matter. Vacuum Wars compared Ultra, AE and CE and found good pet-hair pickup on the AE, zero seven-inch-hair tangles with its TriCut brush, and an obstacle score of 19/24. The plain Ultra scored only 7/24 despite stronger carpet-sand performance. These are that outlet’s tests, not directly interchangeable with RTINGS scores. Dreame’s AE listing includes the TriCut brush; its pads lift but cannot be left at the dock. Do not substitute an Ultra or CE solely because the name looks close.
E25: buy for the mop. TechRadar’s hands-on review found effective vacuuming and excellent mopping at high settings, good obstacle avoidance and no manual side-brush detangling during the test. Automatic settings were less dependable and returns to the dock extended cleaning time. That is not a controlled pet-hair-carpet win. eufy’s own guidance recommends avoiding medium- and long-pile carpets; the roller mop cannot detach at the base.
CurvX: read past the laboratory result. Vacuum Wars’ initial test reported zero hair wrap and 92% pickup of embedded sand on its carpet test. Sand pickup is not a pet-hair measurement. Its three-month household follow-up, with a heavy-shedding dog, found bin filling/clogging and unreliable obstacle avoidance, including bumping the dog. Room-by-room emptying helped, but frequent intervention remained. At $1,499.99, I would not choose it to minimize work in a heavy-shedding home.
Saros 10R: navigation does not solve embedded fur. RTINGS’ public review praises hard-floor pickup and obstacle handling but finds poor embedded pet-hair removal from carpet, requiring repeated passes. Thin cables and rug tassels can still be missed. The manufacturer’s 3.14-inch body is useful under furniture; it is not a reason to ignore the carpet result. I would choose this only when hard floors and low clearances dominate the brief.

Dimensions describe the dock body, not sufficient working clearance. Q7, Dreame and CurvX figures come from the product pages linked above; Saros dimensions are cross-checked against Roborock’s official specification. Roborock’s Saros placement guidance asks for roughly 29.5 inches height, 15.7 inches width and 47.2 inches depth of installation space.
eufy support lists a slightly different E25 station size from its product page and warns against enclosing the station in a closet. If fitting cabinetry, get the current regional unit’s measured drawing first. Keep every dock accessible for dirty water, bags and cleaning.

These are budget scenarios, not measured total ownership costs or guaranteed sufficient allowances. Add electricity, water, tax, shipping, repairs and any replacement battery. Cleaning frequency, coat type and floor area determine how often bags, filters, brushes and mops need replacing. A severe-shedding household can exceed either allowance.
For a concrete reference, Dreame’s checked AE page lists its compatible accessory kit at $89.99. One such kit a year would add $179.98 over two years, taking hardware plus those purchases to $849.97, before power, extra solution or repairs; it is not a claim that one kit lasts a year. eufy’s page offers a $105.94 quarterly bundle: buying eight at that price would add $847.52. A bundle’s marketing cadence is not evidence that you need to replace every component that often.
All five involve consumables and manual cleaning. Start with a weekly inspection of wheels, rollers, filters and the dock tray, adjusting to actual buildup. Empty dirty water promptly. High auto-empty frequency can matter more than a large advertised bag duration when the onboard bin fills with fur.
Features worth paying for—and when to keep a conventional vacuum
Pay first for demonstrated fur pickup on your floor type, a brush you can easily clean, dependable mapping and the ability to empty frequently. Obstacle avoidance earns its premium when toys or cables otherwise interrupt every run. Mop washing earns its premium when you regularly mop hard floors; it contributes little to an all-carpet home.
Before unattended cleaning, check the floor for pet accidents and remove cords, socks and small toys. No test of a fake obstacle establishes a guarantee against spreading real pet waste. Supervise initial runs around pet bowls and resting animals, then set no-go zones and schedules that fit the home.
Keep a conventional vacuum for stairs, upholstery, tight corners and embedded fur the robot leaves behind. If your main problem is a heavily furred sofa or thick rugs, directing the budget there may solve more of the problem. A robot is most useful as frequent floor maintenance between deeper cleans.
