The Moor’s Forest Breakfast
In A Hundred Anecdotes of Animals, a Moor hunting in a forest met two lion cubs, stopped to share his breakfast with them, and watched as their mother brought back a sheep and laid it at his feet[1]. He skinned the sheep, made a fire, roasted part of it, and gave the entrails to the cubs[2]. The anthology says the lion also appeared without showing ferocity; when the Moor left the next day, both parents accompanied him safely out of the forest[3].
