Salyut 7: Preparing the Worksite, Then Making the Repair
On November 1, 1983, Lyakhov and Alexandrov spent 2 hours 50 minutes augmenting Salyut 7’s solar array, working from foot restraints.
On April 23, 1984, Kizim and Solovyov carried 40 kg of equipment 15 m to prepare the aft compartment for a later repair.
For that April preparation EVA, they brought cutting tools, wrenches, bypass pipes, a tool caddy, waste container, and 5-m ladder.
With no handholds by the ODU, they used a remotely extended platform with foot restraints, drove anchor pins, and secured the ladder and tool containers.
On August 8, 1984, Kizim and Solovyov used the Portable Pneumo Press, a pipe-squeezing tool, to seal the oxidizer system; checks confirmed it was sealed.
