Comparative GLP-1 and GIP Weight-Loss Evidence Quiz

Q1. In the reviewed evidence, which drug generally produced greater average weight loss?
- Semaglutide
- Tirzepatide
- Exenatide
- Liraglutide
Answer: Tirzepatide
Q2. Which study-design issue most strongly limits confidence in the semaglutide versus tirzepatide comparison?
- The comparison came entirely from direct randomized head-to-head trials
- Heterogeneity prevented meta-analysis and direct head-to-head randomized trials were scarce
- Follow-up was always longer than 5 years
- Only one drug had any gastrointestinal adverse events
Answer: Heterogeneity prevented meta-analysis and direct head-to-head randomized trials were scarce
Q3. Which adverse events were most commonly reported with these agents in the trials?
- Rash, arthralgia, and insomnia
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation
- Hair loss and tinnitus
- Hypertension and bradycardia
Answer: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation
Q4. What is the best evidence-based caveat about long-term follow-up in the reviewed literature?
- Most studies followed participants for several years, so durability is well established
- Treatment durations ranged from 16 to 104 weeks, with a median of 43 weeks in one review, and most studies were relatively short
- Long-term follow-up was unnecessary because outcomes were identical across studies
- No study reported any follow-up length
Answer: Treatment durations ranged from 16 to 104 weeks, with a median of 43 weeks in one review, and most studies were relatively short
Q5. What does the evidence suggest about heterogeneity of treatment effects?
- There were no subgroup differences reported anywhere
- Subgroup data suggested possible differences, but one review said the data were insufficient for stratified analyses
- Only patients with diabetes were studied, so heterogeneity could not be assessed
- All studies found identical effects across every subgroup
Answer: Subgroup data suggested possible differences, but one review said the data were insufficient for stratified analyses

nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation

insufficient to support stratified analyses
