Loudon’s Waterspout: A Sea-Spanning Spiral

Beneath the cloud cone, the sea is agitated and whirls.

Loudon’s period account says vapour rises from the sea in a spiral column toward the cloud cone; the two columns may disperse before joining.

At the cone’s centre, Loudon reports a clear, hollow-looking space, with large raindrops falling inside it and around the spout’s edges.

Loudon reports that wind can make a waterspout travel obliquely, and that it may disperse suddenly.
