How automatable is one of your work tasks?

Q1. Assess one task, not your whole job. For this question, which option best describes how often you do your task and the time it takes? Choose the option that fits your task; frequent, time-consuming work may be worth assessing as an automation candidate.[[cite:1]][[cite:2]]
- Rarely, and it takes little time
- Occasionally or a modest amount of time
- Often, or it takes substantial time
- Very frequently and/or consumes a lot of time
Answer: Very frequently and/or consumes a lot of time[[cite:3]][[cite:4]]
Q2. For your task, how consistent are the steps and rules from one instance to the next? Stable, repeatable processes tend to be easier candidates for automation.[[cite:5]]
- The process changes substantially each time
- Some steps repeat, but exceptions are common
- Mostly consistent, with occasional variation
- Highly consistent and rule-based
Answer: Highly consistent and rule-based[[cite:6]]
Q3. How ready are your task’s inputs and outputs for a digital system? Structured, accessible data can support automation; scattered or unstructured information may need preparation first.[[cite:7]][[cite:8]]
- Mostly unavailable, scattered, or unstructured
- Some data is digital, but substantial cleanup is needed
- Mostly accessible and structured
- Clean, structured, and readily accessible
Answer: Clean, structured, and readily accessible[[cite:9]][[cite:10]]
Q4. How much judgment, adaptation, or exception-handling does your task require? A greater need for these can point to keeping people involved, though it does not guarantee a task is unaffected by AI.[[cite:11]][[cite:12]]
- A great deal; cases are highly contextual
- Regular judgment or adaptation is needed
- Some exceptions, but most cases are routine
- Very little; clear rules cover nearly all cases
Answer: Very little; clear rules cover nearly all cases[[cite:13]][[cite:14]]
Q5. How much does your task depend on interpersonal interaction or social skills? Tasks requiring these may be less susceptible, but susceptibility varies by technology and analytical non-routine work can still be exposed.[[cite:15]][[cite:16]]
- Essential in nearly every instance
- Important in many instances
- Occasional interaction, mostly standardized
- Little or no interpersonal interaction
Answer: Little or no interpersonal interaction[[cite:17]][[cite:18]]
