Why cyberpunk still looks like the 1980s
Cyberpunk still looks like the 1980s because its visual language grew from that era: CRT computers, neon, moody streets and the low-life/high-tech clash. Later works repeated bulky rigs, cables and jacks until they became shorthand for dystopia. Retrofuturism, the future imagined earlier, with chrome, old computers and analog-digital interfaces, keeps feeding the look. Newer sci-fi also splits off into sleek corporate futurism or post-cyberpunk’s more ordinary, daylight-realistic worlds.
