The Mouse That Came Back for One More Note 🐭🎶

Musical Mouse
A rainy winter evening. A flute begins, and a mouse appears. In “Musical Mouse”, an anecdote in A Hundred Anecdotes of Animals (1901), an unnamed American gentleman describes an unexpected listener. As he played alone in his room, a mouse crept from its hole and approached his chair. When he stopped, it hurried home. When he began again, it returned. The little visitor settled on the floor, closed its eyes, and seemed absorbed in the music. The man repeated the experiment, noticing different responses to slow, plaintive passages and brisk, lively ones. Eventually the mouse left, and no tune could persuade it back. One room. One flute. The smallest audience. AI visualisation by Meta AI, adapted by Pandi from “Musical Mouse”, Anecdote LXXXI in A Hundred Anecdotes of Animals (1901), illustrated by Percy J. Billinghurst. The story is a historical anecdote. Original source: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24263 (14.0s)
