Is 80% adherence evidence-based? The review says not as a universal rule
An 80% medication-adherence cutoff originated as an empirical definition in early antihypertensive care: taking at least 80% was treated as sufficient. The review could neither confirm nor reject its validity, and says it was questioned as a general standard. The needed level may depend on disease, medication and patient characteristics. Studies measured adherence differently, so their rates could not be quantitatively compared or standardized.
