The visible seam that keeps the wonder tangible

Original editorial reconstruction of a fantastical miniature boat scene: a tiny painted vessel hangs above a dark sea on a visible support, with a model edge and a transition from tabletop materials to a painted backdrop. The exposed craft makes the illusion feel physically made while the scene remains magical.
Criterion describes the film’s effects as a mix of miniatures, optical tricks, mechanical creatures, matte paintings and limited blue-screen work. The visible joins here are an editorial interpretation: showing the handmade construction can make the impossible feel tangible without presenting this reconstruction as a film artifact.
