Social engineering is the art of manipulating people through deception, trust, urgency, or human error. The aim is to make someone reveal sensitive information, grant unauthorized access, or break security rules. It is sometimes called human hacking. One documented example comes from 2011, when attackers sent employees phishing emails with a malicious spreadsheet attachment. Opening it helped attackers exploit a software vulnerability and install a backdoor. In another example, Frank Abagnale impersonated a doctor, lawyer, and airplane pilot to gain trust and take advantage of others. Your best protective habit is simple: pause before opening unexpected attachments or sharing sensitive information, and verify who is contacting you through a trusted channel.
