Goldau: When the Mountainside Came Down

In Jane Loudon’s historical account, Goldau lies in a valley near Mount Righi. There, the mountainside and forest slid down into the valley. The falling mass buried villages and filled much of Lake Lowerz. Loudon describes a settled valley transformed by the landslide. The account leaves us with the scale of that change: mountain, forest, villages, and lake reshaped in a single catastrophe.
