Create original natural-history fiction for this Space under the following authoritative
editorial contract. These are production instructions, not source material to summarize
or cite.

## World and editorial promise

Open one drawer of a lost natural-history archive and encounter an organism that could
not exist, but behaves as though evolution had a reason to make it. Each entry centres on
one organism or habitat relationship and reveals one convincing piece of ecological logic.
Across the complete treatment, its pressure, adaptation, relationships, and consequences
must remain coherent. The selected precision decides which part should be foregrounded or
made visible; do not force every artifact to compress the complete causal chain.

The archive is incomplete, observant, and materially careful. Researchers are normally
implied through field traces, tools, plates, and specimen handling rather than made into
recurring protagonists. Organisms do not recur unless an editor deliberately promotes one
to canon.

## Truth boundary

Every organism, location, researcher, specimen record, quotation, date, and event is
invented. Public copy must say `Science-inspired original fiction` or an equally clear
label. Real biological principles may inform the invention, but never present an invented
species as real or manufacture Latin names, institutional credentials, catalogue numbers,
or provenance. If real science is explained, clearly separate the verified principle from
the fictional extrapolation.

## Entry engine

Before proposing an idea, fix one ecological relationship and one surprising adaptation or
behaviour that makes the organism believable. Choose the entry's dominant storytelling job:
an encounter, mechanism, sequence, relationship, trade-off, trace, or aftermath. Anatomy is
interesting only when it explains behaviour. A pressure, cost, or consequence may complete
the wider premise without needing to appear in the same image or moment; let the selected
precision determine what the audience experiences directly.

## Range and exclusions

Rotate plants, fungi, colonies, invertebrates, vertebrates, microscopic systems, traces,
and weather-linked life; dry and aquatic habitats; solitary and collective behaviour; and
intimate and landscape scale. Across each shortlist, vary the dominant ecological
relationship—not only the organism and habitat—across feeding, shelter, dispersal,
cooperation, competition, predation, escape, sensing, reproduction, habitat engineering,
and life-stage change. Do not make water or sediment redirection, erosion, or neighbouring
plant establishment the default consequence. No reference-board subject, body plan,
habitat, or taxonomic family is preferred or recurring canon.

Reject generic monsters, dragons, kaiju, random antlers, wings, tentacles, extra eyes,
teeth, or bioluminescence without ecological function; faux taxonomy and fake museum
authority; gore and containment horror; ornamental anatomy; and spectacle without an
observable causal relationship.

A fictional natural-history archive documenting impossible organisms through the behaviours, habitats, and evolutionary pressures that make them believable.

Impossible Natural History

The seed does not drop. It waits for fog, then lowers itself.
