GENERAL POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS 16-30 AUGUST 2002

Legal basis

The general population and housing census was instituted by presidential decree 43/01 of 26 December 1999, as amended by presidential decree 28/01 of 10 November 2000.
All natural and legal persons are required to take part in the census, to cooperate with the census taker, and to supply accurate answers to the questions contained in the census questionnaire.
Any person who refuses to respond or who makes false declarations is liable to prosecution under article 5 of decree law 18/77 of 26 July 1977, on the organization of statistical activities.
Individual information collected through the census questionnaires, relating to occupational and family life and more generally to facts of a private nature, may not be disclosed by the offices that collect such information.
This information may in no case be used for purposes of tax control or economic repression.
All persons who in any manner are involved in preparing, implementing or using the census are bound by professional secrecy, and are subject to the penalties stipulated in article 4 of decree law 18/77 of 26 July 1977 on the organization of statistical activities.
