3 1. Gross Domestic Product and its structure In first quarter of 2026, GDP at current market prices was estimated at Frw 6,346 billion, up from Frw 5,276 billion in 2025 Q1. Services contributed 52% to GDP, agriculture contributed 19% while industry contributed 24%. Net indirect taxes accounted for 5%. Growth rate by kind of activity In the first quarter of 2026, GDP increased by 10% compared to the first quarter of 2025. Growth in sectors were as follows: – Agriculture increased by 8%. – Industry increased by 13%. – Services increased by 7%. 2.1 Agriculture The overall performance of agriculture sector was 8% and contributed 1.6 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within agriculture, food crops production increased by 3%. The export crops production increased by 39%. 2.2 Industry The overall growth of industry was 13% and contributed 3.1 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within industry, mining and quarrying increased by 20%, construction activities increased by 11%, while manufacturing activities increased by 15%. The growth in manufacturing was driven by a 52% increase in manufacturing of metal products, machinery & equipment, a 57% increase in manufacturing of non-metallic mineral products, 21% increase in manufacturing of chemicals, rubber & plastic products, 22% increase in manufacturing wood &paper, printing. On the other hand, furniture and other manufacturing decreased by 6%
4 2.3 Services The overall growth of the services sector was 7% and contributed 3.9 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within services, wholesale and retail trade increased by 11%; transport services increased by 11%. Among other services information & communication services increased by 22%, financial services increased by 11%, administration and support services increased by 20%. On the other hand; hotels and restaurants decreased by 16%, public administration services decreased by 1%, and health services decreased by 18%. 3. Expenditure GDP In the first quarter of 2026, private final consumption expenditure was 72 % of the GDP, government final consumption expenditure was 14% while gross capital formation was estimated at 28% of GDP. Total final consumption expenditure increased by 16%, with household final consumption expenditure increasing by 21% while government final consumption expenditure decreased by 6%. Exports of goods & services decreased by 8%; imports of goods & services increased by 7% while gross capital formation increased 7%.
